A nearly full drive can make your computer slow and stop updates from installing. These steps free up space safely.

Windows

  1. Go to Settings → System → Storage to see what's using space.
  2. Use Cleanup recommendations or Storage Sense to remove temporary files.
  3. Empty the Recycle Bin.
  4. Uninstall apps you don't use.
  5. Move large files to an external drive or cloud.

Mac

  1. Go to System Settings → General → Storage.
  2. Follow recommendations like "Store in iCloud" and "Empty Bin Automatically".
  3. Review large files and documents.
  4. Delete unused apps.
  5. Clear old downloads.
Downloads folderThe Downloads folder is often full of old installers and duplicates. Sort by size and delete what you don't need.

Other big space users

  • Old phone backups
  • Videos and photo libraries
  • Games
  • Duplicate files

Be careful
