Office holiday parties are a chance to relax and connect with colleagues. A few simple guidelines help you enjoy yourself and keep your professional reputation intact.

Do

  • Go, even briefly. It shows you're part of the team.
  • Dress for the occasion — check the dress code.
  • Talk to new people, including colleagues from other teams and senior leaders.
  • Thank the organisers.
  • Eat something before or during the party.

Don't

  • Drink too much. Alternate drinks with water, or choose alcohol-free options.
  • Gossip or complain about work or colleagues.
  • Talk only about work — ask about holiday plans and hobbies.
  • Post photos of colleagues without asking.
Easy conversation starters"Any plans for the holidays?" "What was the highlight of your year?" "Have you been on any good trips lately?"

Getting home

The next day
