Running out of battery before the end of the day is frustrating. A few simple changes can help your phone last longer on each charge, and keep the battery healthy over time.

Settings that save battery today

  1. Lower screen brightness or turn on auto-brightness. The screen is often the biggest battery user.
  2. Use dark mode, which can save power on many phones with OLED screens.
  3. Shorten screen timeout to 30 seconds or one minute.
  4. Turn on battery saver / low power mode when you need to stretch your charge.
  5. Limit background activity for apps that don't need it.
  6. Turn off location for apps that don't need it all the time.

Reduce notifications

Every notification lights up the screen and wakes the phone. Turn off notifications for apps you don't need to hear from instantly.

Signal matters

When your signal is weak, your phone works harder to stay connected. In areas with poor coverage, use Wi-Fi where possible or switch on airplane mode if you don't need to be reachable.

Keep your battery healthy long-term

  • Avoid extreme heat. Don't leave your phone in a hot car or in direct sun.
  • Don't always charge to 100%. Many phones have an "optimised charging" setting that reduces wear.
  • Avoid running it to 0% often.
  • Use good-quality chargers and cables.

When to replace the battery

If your phone dies quickly even after these changes, check battery health in settings. Replacing an old battery is usually much cheaper than buying a new phone.
