Many workplaces hold performance reviews at the end of the year. Preparation helps you show your value and have a productive conversation.

Before the review

  1. List your achievements with numbers where possible.
  2. Gather evidence: emails, positive feedback, project results.
  3. Review your goals from last year and how you met them.
  4. Reflect honestly on challenges and what you learned.
  5. Think about next year: skills to develop, projects you'd like.
Keep a "wins" fileSave achievements and thank-you messages throughout the year. Review time becomes much easier.

During the review

  • Share your achievements clearly and confidently.
  • Listen to feedback without becoming defensive.
  • Ask for specific examples if feedback is vague.
  • Discuss development and career goals.
  • If appropriate, bring up pay or promotion.

After the review

Send a short thank-you email summarising agreed goals and next steps. Check in on progress during the year.
