Android phones can slow down over time as storage fills up and apps run in the background. Most fixes are free and quick.

Quick fixes

  1. Restart the phone regularly.
  2. Update the system and apps in Settings and the Play Store.
  3. Free up storage — aim to keep at least 10–15% free.
  4. Uninstall unused apps.
  5. Clear app caches for large apps in Settings → Apps → Storage.

Reduce background load

  • Remove live wallpapers and widgets you don't need.
  • Turn off auto-sync for accounts you rarely use.
  • Use "lite" versions of some apps where available.
Developer trickIn Developer options, setting animation scales to 0.5x makes the phone feel snappier. Only change settings you understand.

Check for problem apps

Look at Settings → Battery to see which apps use the most power. A single misbehaving app can slow everything down.

Last resort: factory reset

If the phone is still slow, back up everything and do a factory reset. Then reinstall only the apps you really need.
