Moving to a new phone is easier than ever. Most phones have built-in tools that transfer your data in one go.

Before you start

  • Back up your old phone.
  • Charge both phones fully.
  • Connect both to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • Have your passwords ready.

iPhone to iPhone

Place the new iPhone next to the old one during setup. The Quick Start option appears and walks you through transferring everything wirelessly. You can also restore from an iCloud backup.

Android to Android

During setup, choose to copy data from another phone. You can connect with a cable or wirelessly, or restore from your Google account backup. Some brands also have their own transfer apps.

Switching between iPhone and Android

  • Android to iPhone: use Apple's "Move to iOS" app on your Android phone.
  • iPhone to Android: many Android phones offer a transfer option from iPhone during setup, often using a cable.
Messaging appsWhatsApp and other chat apps often need their own backup and restore. Check each app's settings before you switch.

After transferring

  1. Check photos, contacts and messages arrived.
  2. Sign in to banking and important apps.
  3. Move your SIM or set up your eSIM.
  4. Only then reset your old phone.
