Constant notifications and endless scrolling can leave you feeling tired and distracted. A digital detox weekend gives your mind a break and helps you build healthier habits.

Before the weekend

  • Tell friends and family you'll be offline, and how to reach you in an emergency.
  • Set up an out-of-office message.
  • Plan offline activities so you're not bored.
  • Download any maps or tickets you'll need.

During the detox

  1. Turn off non-essential notifications, or put your phone in another room.
  2. Use a basic alarm clock instead of your phone.
  3. Delete or log out of social apps for the weekend.
  4. Fill the time with things you enjoy: walks, cooking, reading, games, seeing friends.
Not all or nothingIf a full detox isn't realistic, try a partial one: phone only for calls and messages, no social media or news.

Offline activity ideas

  • A long walk or hike
  • Board games or puzzles
  • Cooking a new recipe
  • Reading a paper book
  • A creative hobby

After the weekend

Notice how you felt. Keep one or two habits, such as no phone at meals, or no screens in the bedroom.
