Being ghosted — when someone suddenly stops all contact without explanation — is painful and confusing. It's also very common in modern dating.

It's not a verdict on you

People ghost for many reasons: avoiding conflict, feeling overwhelmed, meeting someone else, or simply poor communication skills. Their silence says more about them than about you.

What to do

  1. Send one message if you want closure: "Haven't heard from you, so I'll assume you've moved on. Take care."
  2. Then stop. Avoid repeated messages or checking their profiles.
  3. Feel your feelings. It's okay to be disappointed.
  4. Talk to a friend who can give perspective.
Mute, don't monitorMuting or unfollowing helps you stop checking for updates and move on faster.

Rebuild confidence

  • Do things that make you feel good about yourself.
  • Remember positive feedback from friends and past relationships.
  • Take a break from apps if you need one.

Going forward

Look for people who communicate consistently. Clear communication early on is a good sign of how someone will treat you later.
